Fabrication of A Large Steel Mast Weldment for a Forklift Application
A customer approached Chicago Metal Fabricators to fabricate a steel mast weldment for use within a 100 ton forklift application. We used a high definition bevel plasma cutter to cut the 3″ thick A514 T-1 and A572-Gr 80 steel plate. We then used both submerged arc and flux-core methods to weld the 25′ long, 7′ wide, 3′ high mast weldment together all while maintaining tightest tolerances of +/- 1/16″. We produced one, 24,000 lbs weldment monthly, and each of the part’s welds was subjected to magnetic particle and ultrasonic testing.
