A customer approached Chicago Metal Fabricators to fabricate a steel mast weldment for use within a 100 ton forklift application. We used a high definition bevel plasma cutter to cut the 3″ thick A514 T-1 and A572-Gr 80 steel plate.
Fabrication of heavy gauge Particle Accelerator Base Weldment for the Scientific Research Industry
Chicago Metal Fabricators was approached by a client in the scientific research industry to fabricate base weldments for particle accelerators. We first plasma cut all the A36 steel parts with a Messer 400 amp high definition bevel plasma cutter.
Brake Press Forming of heavy, High Tensile Strength Steel Component for the Off-Highway Industry
A client from the off-highway industry came to Chicago Metal Fabricators to brake press form a high tensile strength steel component. The 4,500 lbs component was CNC bevel plasma cut using a Messer MPC high definitional bevel plasma cutter. Then we press brake formed the 110,000 PSI tensile strength, AR400 steel into a .750″ thick, 18′ long and 8′ wide component. Finally, we tested, inspected and delivered 20 of the high tensile strength components each month.
Laser Cutting of heavy gauge metal for Machinery Base Frame for the Air Compressor Industry
A customer, who produces air compressors, approached Chicago Metal Fabricators to laser cut 5 machinery base frames. Utilizing a 8 kW fiber laser, we laser cut the 1/4″ thick A36 steel machinery base frames while holding tightest tolerances of +/- 1/32″ throughout production. Following cutting, the frames were welded, machined and put through a CNC 350 ton press brake. Each of the 8,500 lbs frames was finished with a powder coat (semi-gloss black) and met ISO 9001-2008 specifications.
Fabrication of heavy gauge Steel Base Weldment for the Machine Tool Industry
Chicago Metal Fabricators was approached by a customer in the machine tooling industry to fabricate a steel base weldment. The weldment’s A36 steel was plasma cut (Messer 400 amp high definition bevel plasma) and then machined. We then formed the steel at a 135° angle using a 1000 ton x 30 foot press brake. The 17′ long, 15′ wide and 3′ high weldment was then stress relieved and shot blasted. Chicago Metal Fabricators was able to hold tightest tolerances of +/- 1/32″ throughout the fabrication process. Each of the client’s 7, 41,000 lbs base weldments underwent a magnetic particle weld inspection.
Laser Cutting of heavy gauge Steel End Sheet for the Industrial Process Truck
A customer approached Chicago Metal Fabricators to laser cut 15 steel end sheets per month. Utilizing a Whitney 6000 watt plate laser, we laser cut the ½” thick and 108″ in diameter end sheets while holding tightest tolerances of ±.030″ throughout production.
